Who are LEAH Youth Leaders?
During the school year, LEAH places High School students at Boston out-of-school time programs for a near-peer teaching internship.
Prior to being on site, students complete 30-hours of training on STEM curricula, professionalism, teaching, lesson planning, reading aloud, classroom management, positive role modeling, leadership and more.
LEAH also places High School students at local STEM companies for summer internships that expose them to STEM careers & concepts.
What can LEAH Youth do at my site?
For the teaching internship, LEAH High School Youth are placed on site 4 hours a week (2 hours/day, 2 days/week) during the school year to teach fun, hands-on science lessons and activities to promote literacy. We ask that they teach at least one science lesson a week, other than that they are free to help with other tasks, as needed.
For summer internships, the tasks vary greatly on your organization’s needs! Our favorite internships offer the youth opportunities to get hands-on with science, data, or research in some way!
I’m Interested! When Do LEAH Youth Leaders start?
For the teaching internship, LEAH High School youth start the first week in January and continue at your site until the end of the school year.
For summer internships, we can work with you to determine an appropriate start and end date based on the student’s school & summer schedule
What do I have to do to be a site supervisor?
**The below is specific to the school year teaching internship host sites
Attend the following events:

Sign a Memorandum of Understanding before LEAH Youth Leaders begin at your site.
Provide on-site support and feedback to youth through 15 minute weekly check-ins and review of time logs with youth.
Submit youth time logs each week.
Complete a site supervisor survey at the end of the program.
Set aside a designated time for the youth to teach their STEM Lessons (at least 30 minutes/day once a week).
